The Greek Community of Allegheny County is excited to announce several facility enhancement projects completed in 2021 and planned for completion over the next five years.

Designed by architect Thomas Hannah and built in 1904, the enchanting building with great historical value and prestige have been featured in several publications including Landmark Architecture: Pittsburgh and Allegheny County by Walter C. Kidney and Pittsburgh: A New Portrait by Franklin Toker.

The Community Center began as a collaborative project amongst Saint Nicholas parishioners in the 1970’s, including the family of Rania Harris – renowned chef and local celebrity, aiming to create the perfect space to host a grand Greek Food Festival. The project was completed in 1977 and accomplished the goal of hosting the grandest of Food Festivals and year after year hosts the kickoff to a string of Greek Food Festivals throughout the region. Holding strong to its roots and original purpose, the modern addition onto the original Sanctuary has also become the host facility for a wide variety of events. Over the years, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral has held nearly 1,000 wedding receptions, luncheons, anniversary parties, celebrations of life, concerts, comedy shows, galas, college orientations and sporting events.

Coming out of the great many changes that we all have experienced over the last few years, the community center has been able to provide an enchanting, clean, and welcoming space that is large enough to continue events with distancing and precautionary guidelines in place – keeping safety, education and enjoyment the top priorities for all guests.
